The Throwers Podcast is extremely proud to continue its series of interviews with legendary shot putter, Randy Matson. Randy was the first man in the world to throw 70′, the 1968 Olympic Gold Medallist, and is considered by many to be the greatest thrower of all time. Randy shares his story of growing up in Texas, and how he came to be the 1964 Olympic Silver Medallist at age 19. He was drafted by the NFL, NBA, and ABA but turned down those professional sporting opportunities to become the greatest thrower in the world. Randy shares many stories about competing in the golden age of track and field, including competing with Oldfield, Feuerbach, O’Brien and many others. Randy was a pioneer in using weightlifting for training and talks extensively about his training methods. His is 1967 World Record of 21.78m would have ranked 6th in the world 56 years later in 2011.
