The hosts of the Throwers Podcast, Noah Bryant and John Amneus, have known each other since 1998. While the throws coach at UC Santa Barbara, John stumbled across Noah as an 8th grade kid competing in a UCSB all-comers meet as a Javelin thrower. After a couple quick tips that fateful afternoon (including not keeping the tip of the javelin on top of his head), Noah improved his personal record and a coach/athlete relationship was born.
Noah, of course, quickly abandoned the javelin and started focusing on throwing the shot put and hammer. While in high school, Noah continued to play football through his junior year and only became a one sport athlete for his senior season. That senior season culminated in a California State championship, an undefeated season, and CIF Division IV record of 67’6”. He also managed to throw the hammer 199.’
In the Fall of 2002, Noah enrolled at USC and began training under the careful guidance of Dan Lange. Coach Lange took Noah from an outstanding high school athlete to an internationally elite level performer including 2 NCAA championships and a spot on the USA Championships Team in Osaka, Japan in 2007.
In late 2008, Noah and John started working together again for the 2009 season and have been working together since. Through the modern miracle of the Internet (and frequent flyer miles), they are able to train effectively. It also helps that they have so much history behind them.
Noah lives with his wife, Kate, and their dog Tex in College Station, Texas.
John lives with his wife, Malaika and their twin daughters, Annie and Ella, in Agua Dulce, California.
